Ambica Banerjee
Introduction
Ambica Banerjee was 86 years old Loksabha MP, elected from Howrah of West Bengal state as a member of All India Trinamool Congress Party. He died on 25th April 2013 suffering from problems in prostrate gland and kidney. Ambica Banerjee was born to Late Shri Anilmohon Banerjee & Late Smt. Shyama Devi and was married to Smt. Bela Banerjee.
Background information of Ambica Banerjee
A mechanical engineer by profession, Banerjee studied in London and from 1982 to 2006 he was a West Bengal MLA as a member of Congress Party.
He also served as deputy leader of Opposition between 1996 to 2006.
Later he joined All India Trinamool Congress Party and contested for Loksabha Seat in Howrah in 2006 but lost.
He contested from the same seat again in 2009 and won. During elections he and several other Trinamool politicians fought with police in Kolkata over ‘abandoned’ ballots which they believed had been brought to an official building by the CPI(M) ‘for rigging purposes’.
He was considered very senior member and very well respected as a politician in the Party.
He was also associated with sports organisations like Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and Indian Football Association (IFA).
