Background information of Deepa Dasmunsi:
Deepa is the wife of ailing Congress leader and former union minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi. She is a former actress. Deepa had contested in 2006 when Dasmunshi was union cabinet minister but lost the assembly polls. She won 2009 Lok Sabha polls riding on sympathy wave. Deepa is a known critic of Trinamool and this factor has said to have prevented her from joining the Manmohan Singh government as a junior minister.
