Background information of Dr. M. Jagannath:
A grassroots politician, he worked as a labourer during the construction of the famous Nagarjunasagar Dam to organise money for his medical education. He was well known as a medical practitioner in Mahbubnagar. In 1996, he was persuaded by close friend and TDP leader Dr N Janardhan Reddy to join politics. He won and retained the seat in the 1999, 2004 and 2009 elections. He rebelled against TDP and voted for Congress-led Manmohan Singh government during vote of confidence in 2008 over the issue of a Nuclear deal with USA. Later, he joined Congress and won the 2009 elections on a Congress ticket.
