Background information of Dr. Ratna De(Nag):
Dr. Ratna is second generation Congress leader. Her father Gopal Das Nag was state minister and a well known figure in the Congress government of Bengal 1972-77. She had won assembly seat in 2001. (It is surprising that Mamata Banerjee has not offered ministerial berths to any of her three women MPs – Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Dr Ratna De and Shatabdi Roy. Some feel she is following a political trend in Bengal that keeps women away from positions of power and decision-making. Overall, West Bengal with its seven women MPs ranks second after Uttar Pradesh as the state with the most woman MPs.)
