Background information of M. Vijaya Shanthi:

Vijayshanti was the top heroine of the Telugu film industry during the 1990s. Her strong action roles earned her the nickname of ‘Lady Amitabh Bachchan’. She entered politics by first joining the BJP and later floated her own party ‘Telangana Talli’, which remained a non-starter. Before 2009 elections, she merged her outfit with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and won the Medak seat. However, she developed differences with TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao and and expressed an inclination to join Congress. However Y S Rajasekhara Reddy died in a helicopter crash a week after she met him, and she is now re-associating herself with TRS and the cause of a separate Telangana.
