A well known Muslim cleric the victory of Maulana Asrarul Haque surprised many. Maulana Asrar-ul-Haq Qasmi is the founder and General Secretary of the All-India Talimi Foundation and had been the General Secretary of the Jami’at Ulama-e-Hind, for a long period. After quitting Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, he founded the All India Milli Foundation to create awareness of education among the Muslim community and established many madrasas and schools across the country. He established a separate girls high school in Kishanganj. He is a well-known Urdu journalist too. He writes columns for many newspapers and magazines and is also a good speaker. He defeated two Muslim candidates contesting from Kishanganj including the sitting MP Taslimuddin of RJD.
