His grandfather Apparao Shetkar was twice elected as a MLA from Narayankhed; his father Shivrao Shetkar retained the same seat for three consecutive terms. He himself got elected to the Assembly in 2004. Due to the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, his position was further strenthened and he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009.
