Background information of Thiru Thalikkottai Rajuthevar Baalu:
He rose from the ranks. He emerged as a strongman in the DMK for his organisational skills. He joined the DMK when he was 16 in 1957, and was active in the party’s youth wing. He was also made the DMK secretary for the Madras district. However, he was made a Rajya Sabha member only in 1986 and was elected as a LS member after that. The five term MP, was a powerful union minister for nearly a decade. Now heads the DMK parliamentary party.
